Once you have a pair (or better still a group of two females and four males) you can start conditioning them for breeding. This is done by feeding plenty of live foods. Bloodworms, Daphnia, White and Grindal worms are best for this. A good quality flake or tablet food should also be fed during this period. When in breeding condition the males will be looking particularly bright in colouration. Females will be plump and full of eggs. Now you might think everything will go like clockwork and your breeders will be up and running as soon as possible. The truth is, however, that fish do not spawn to order. Your wonderfully conditioned adult pair may very well just sit there and do nothing for weeks or even months. Given patience, however, your Corydoras will start spawning. This usually happens the morning after a partial water change with cooler water. Now you can sit down and watch their antics. Aquarist and Pondkeeper Articles |
