Tropica Aquarium Plants first started quarter of a century ago and now specializes in 160 different plants. Founder and owner Holger Windelov, who found many of the original species himself in tropical rivers, says that Tropica's ambition is not to become the biggest in the world but to continue to be the best.
Every year Tropica makes a number of expeditions to remote and often inaccessible rivers, lakes and streams in the tropics. They are constantly on the lookout for new, exciting plants and varieties to offer aquarium owners all over the world.
The selected plants have a healthier and easier life in Tropica's green houses than they would have had in the wild. They are given optimum nutrition, perfect climatic conditions, and all the light they need to grow big and fertile. These mother plants are used to produce all the plants Tropica sell.
The vast majority of plants are grown in standard fashion from shoots, seeds or cuttings, but an increasing number of cuttings from mother plants now start life in Tropica's tissue laboratory, where they are planted in a special nutritional substance in closed test tubes from which fungi, bacteria and pests have been systematically removed to create a completely protected environment with optimum fertiliser, light and temperature conditions .
Product development, quality and service are important concepts at Tropica, but these activities must always harmonize with and respect the natural environment. Tropica feel not only responsible for the tropical environment that is the basis for their existence, but also for their immediate environment in Denmark. Nothing else would be acceptable to Tropica.
