Cichlasoma octofasciatum
HABITS This is one nasty fish, thus it was named after a boxer. It should only be kept with other similar sized Ciclids, preferably in a larger aquarium. It is an easy fish to keep and to breed. The ones for sale are usually commercially bred.

SEXING The male is more colourful than the female.
BREEDING These Cichlids lay their eggs in open situations and guard the eggs and fry very conscientiously. They breed regularly throughout the year and lay about 500 eggs at a time. The male may become extremely aggressive during the pre-spawning ritual and injure the unwilling female.
