Black Molly
Poecilia hybrid
| HABITS |
|
The mollies are another of the 4 most popular of the livebearers available in your local aquarium store. Generally a very peaceful fish that goes well in the community aquarium, occasionally you will get an aggressive male, remember he enjoys the company of more females, then he normally calms down. They enjoy a planted aquarium but will graze on your plants as this fish enjoys a good plate of vegetables, see the sera menu below. They are generally hardy but appreciate good quality water, they dislike pollution so make sure before you buy that you have a high ‘Aquatest’ percentage, or they are quite disease prone.

| BREEDING |
|
These fish produce broods of young on an average every six to ten weeks. They are best separated from the main community or the young run the risk of being eaten. A sera breeding net hooked into the main aquarium is a good place to grow the young until they are old enough to be released back into the main aquarium. These fish can regularly produce broods of 20 to 60 young at a time.
