THE FISH
Black-winged Hatchet Fish
Carnegiella marthae
| HABITS |
|
This is often called the 'Dwarf' hatchet due to its small size. As with all the hatchets, this is a jumper so keep those lids on firmly. It is a friendly but more tricky fish to keep. It prefers subdued lighting so a few floating plants help. Good food and good water go without saying.

| BREEDING |
|
These fish don't spawn often but when they do, they lay sticky eggs that adhere to the plants. The eggs hatch in around 24 - 36 hours and the fry hang from the egg sacks until all the nourishment is used up, which is in about 5 days.
