THE FISH
Croaking Gourami
Trichopsis vittatus
| HABITS |
|
There are written reports of this fish being rather shy and that in a mixed community it could be low down the pecking order, thus needing extra attention to ensure it gets the correct amount of food to meet its needs.
To counter this one avid keeper of this very interesting little fish describes it as a bold species that can easily be placed in a community aquarium, stating that he has never experienced shyness and that they are tolerant of water quality and breed readily.
So please don’t be put off this cool little fish, try it for yourself, it seems that it can make a good addition to a community.

| BREEDING |
|
The male and the female are both capable of emitting audible sounds during courtship. This bubblenester can lay up to 200 eggs.
Note from enthusiast!
I heartily recommend keeping T. vittatus and trying to breed it. 200 fry is about the number you can expect to hatch out and they take brine shrimp as their first food making them easier to raise. I bred hundreds of them some years ago, from a truly wild caught pair, by scooping out the nests from the 4'6" community tank they were in and raising them in the fish house. Give em a go if you get the chance.
By the way, I'd recommend sera as well!
