You can put this one down as one of the most peaceful of the cichlids. It enjoys life in the lower half of the aquarium where it will lurk amongst the rocks and plants. This fish also does not dig, so plants are an option. To bring out the best in this fish you need soft acidic water, so please use ‘Aquatest’ for optimum results.

The male is larger and more intensely coloured than the female.

These fish spawn on a smooth surface. The females chase the males away and look after the eggs. It is better to take the males away and let them chill out in another aquarium.
