This is a shoaling fish native to Madagascar and not commonly seen sold in the UK. It can be found swimming in the certre of an aquarium where there is a lot of space. It should be kept as a shoal. It is a relatively easy fish to keep as it mixes well, but can grow a little too large for small aquariums.

This fish grows to around 3 inches in an aquarium, but can reach up to 6 inches in the wild or in larger aquariums.

|
The male has a dark red 'hem' to its fins while the female is generally less colourful.
|

| BREEDING |
|
These fish lay their eggs in a 'free spawning' manner. They generally ignore the eggs and fry. It is easy to bring the fry along by feeding them brine shrimp nauplii.
