Red Eyed Tetra - Photo
Moenkhausia oligolepis
HABITS The Red Eye, being very adaptable to quite harsh water quality, is one of the best ‘Starter Fish’ to use to mature an aquarium. Used as a first fish, it will give you a healthy balanced aquarium in 4-6 weeks, at which time you can add additional fish. The Red Eye mixes well with most fish of its own size and is best kept in a group of around five fish. This fish enjoys an area of open water at the centre front of the aquarium where it will parade all day. A planted aquarium allows it to show off at its best, although it will nibble soft plants if it gets a little peckish.
SIZE These fish can grow to 11 cm, but can be smaller.
