HABITS This is one of the more unusual catfish that will go well in your community aquarium. It is quite a spiny fish with a long tail extension, from which it derives its name. It stays mainly in the bottom half of the aquarium and enjoys grazing on bogwood and plants.

SEXING Males have a set of bristles at the sides of their heads.
BREEDING They spawn in hollows. Logs are a favourite in the wild, but in captivity, they prefer pipes. It is the male that does the guard duty until the fry hatch.
