SEXING The sexual difference can only be told from the genital papilla in fish that are ready to mate. Females are usually larger than males, which goes for all Julidochromis species.
BREEDING Breeding is easy once you have a harmonizing pair, which does not always result from keeping a male and a female. If the fish do not harmonize, remove the weaker fish and replace it with another one; otherwise, it will someday be killed. Lake Tanganyika fish retailers usually know about this problem and replace the fish with another if the 'pair' does not harmonize.
