THE FISH

J. transcriptus

Julidochromis transcriptus
HABITS Like most lake fish, these guys do best in very large aquariums with lots of rock work where they try to duplicate their natural lake environment whenever possible. These fish will pick an area within your aquarium and guard it closely. They spend most of their lives only inches from the rock they call home. This protectionism towards their personal space increases in intensity when the fish mate, even to the point where they will actually bite their owner. It is often difficult to actually pair these fish so sometimes the best solution is to remove one of the fish and try again.
SIZE These fish grow to around 3 to 3.5 inches.
FOOD See recommended sera Foods below. When using sera Granumeat, it is a good idea to soften it in water or sera Fishtamin before feeding!

SEXING Although sexing is difficult, in most cases the female is larger and has a thicker body.
BREEDING These fish spawn in caves, guarding the fry until they are around 1 inch long. They will allow older fry to stay in the territory together with their smaller brothers and sisters.
