Apistogramma agassizi
HABITS These are beautiful fish indeed, but require you to be very experienced with water quality as they are very unforgiving and will probably die if you get it wrong. Use 'Aquatest' to help you keep your water at its optimum best. It is definitely not wise to keep these fish in young or immature aquariums so make sure your 'Aquatest Score' is 90% or higher. Keeping the water quality good produces stunning fish. The Agassizi's Dwarf enjoy nooks and crannies and do very well in planted aquarium. They are quite peaceful amongst other small fish. However, they can be quite finicky feeders and demand the very best from your sera aquatic kitchen.
SIZE These fish grow to around 3 inches

SEXING The male's caudal fin is larger and more extended than the female's, which is rounded.
BREEDING These fish like to breed in cavities and caves. An ideal breeding place would be an upturned flower pot that has either an entrance or is tilted slightly to one side. The male stands sentry duty, guarding the local area while the female tends to the nest, most often upside down. The eggs hatch in about 3-4 days and are mothered by mum until they become free swimming, at which time they can feed on brine shrimp nauplii.
