THE FISH

Buenos Aires Tetra

Buenos Aires Tetra - Photo
Hemigrammus caudovittatus
HABITS These are hardy little fish but good fish for the beginner. They enjoy being in a group and are fast open-water swimmers. They feed in a real frenzy, so they should not be kept with fish that are slow to feed since they will steal all the food. They also should not be kept with fish that have long flowing fins as they can pick at them.
SIZE These fish can grow to about 7 cm.

SEXING The female is fuller bodied than the male.
BREEDING These fish are quite willing to spawn. Bushy plants should be placed at one end of a breeding tank that has about one-fourth of the water drained off and replaced with fresh water. When placed in the breeding tank they will soon begin to drive and scatter a large numbers of eggs.
