Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid

Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid - Photo
Apistogramma cacatuoides
HABITS A stunning fish that can be found in several different colour forms, the Cockatoo Dwarf can be somewhat of a challenge to keep and will easily die if you do not give them good food and good water. This is common of all the Apistogramma families. By using 'Aquatest' you will greatly improve your chances of successfully keeping these fish healthy and alive. You need to consistently score at least a 90% on the 'Aquatest Score' in order to successfully raise these fish. If you are not experienced enough in keeping your water quality from fluctuating, do not purchase these fish until you become more qualified and confident. A newly set up aquarium is definitely not recommended. These guys love the little nooks and crannies of a well planted aquarium with both rocks and wood, provided this is your style.
SIZE These fish grow to just over 5 cm in length, although the female can be about 1 cm smaller.

SEXING When the female is guarding her eggs, she will develop a bright yellow colour.
BREEDING With plenty of hiding places available, several pairs have been known to spawn at the same time and raise the young to free-swimming stage. When guarding her eggs, the female can develop a mean disposition towards her mate. If he becomes worried, it would be best to get him the out of the tank.
