THE FISH
Congo Tetra
Micralestes interruptus
| HABITS |
|
This is one of the most stunning of fish when viewed in the correct lighting conditions. This fast swimming, shoaling fish will mix well with fish of a similar size and slightly smaller, but should not be with tiny fish or slow swimmers. They can be fussy on the water, preferring slightly soft, acidic water, so use ‘Aquatest’ to be sure of getting it just right.

| SEXING |
|
An interesting thing about this fish is that it has the ability to grow a number of feathery looking appendages from the fork of its tail which are quite prominent in the males but much less so in the females.

| BREEDING |
|
Spawning the Congo Tetra is not an easy task. You will need a large tank, as they lay their eggs among the plants near the bottom of the tank. Once finished, the parents should be removed. The fry hatch in around 6 days.
