Elephant Nose
Gnathonemus petersii
| HABITS |
|
This nocturnal fish lives in muddy water, so it has no real need to use its eyes and has developed a sonar type system to get around. It is relatively peaceful with other fish, but will fight amongst its own species. An aquarium is not a good place for this unusual fish as conditions are a far cry from their natural habitat, and many end up dying. They do not appreciate a well-lit aquarium, so supply dark areas if/when attempting to keep this fish.
