THE FISH
Green Barb
Barbus semifasciolatus
| HABITS |
|
The Green Barb is not as common as the other Barbs. It is a hardy fish that grows a little bigger than many of the smaller fish in the family. It does best in shoals and takes to mid water open spaces. Being a showy fish, it looks best in bright light, and especially beautiful in reflected light with a backdrop of plants. It enjoys the peat type water that bog wood gives to your aquarium

| BREEDING |
|
During mating, the female takes quite a bashing before laying some 300 eggs in the plants. These eggs hatch within a day and a half and are quite easy to raise on standard sera fry food. It is recommended to separate the parents and the eggs, which is typical of all Barbs.
