Panaque (Royal) (L190)
(Royal Plecostomus)

Panaque (Royal) (L190) - Photo
Panaque nigrolineatus
HABITS The ‘Royal’, without a doubt one of the most fascinating and beautiful of all the catfish, is at first a very shy fish, but with time and patience, can be tamed to eat from the front glass of your aquarium (use sera ‘Spirulina Tablets’ for the best results). Once this magnificent fish begins feeding in this manner, you will see up close how it rasps away at its food. Even though its eyes are set back, it is very aware that you are close and watching it. In fact, it is almost like you can talk to it and it knows, which makes it one of my favourites. This fish grows very slowly and mixes well with all but it own kind, although I keep them with lots of other catfish.
SIZE These fish are usually seen at 15 to 18 cm long, but can be found much larger in nature.
