Port Cichlid

Port Cichlid - Photo
Cichlasoma portalegrense
HABITS This is a really easy fish to keep that does not demand too much from the fishkeeper. This does not, however, mean to be sloppy. Remember that good water and good food add up to good results, so use 'Aquatest' and the recommended sera food and these fish will reward you with good colours and lively behaviour. All and all, this is a peaceful fish, but it should not be kept with smaller fish. It is a bit of a digger and some plants may be uprooted.
SIZE This fish can grow to around 6-8 inches.

SEXING The females are slightly smaller. The males have long flowing dorsal and anal fins.
BREEDING These fish should be kept in a large aquarium because of their size and the number of young that they produce. When the parents are ready to spawn, they should have a flat surfaced rock that they will clean and deposit their many eggs upon. The young will hatch in about four to five days and will be mothered by extremely good parents.
