Royal Whiptail

Royal Whiptail - Photo
Sturisoma aureum
HABITS These fish can be classified as splendid examples of what catfish should be. Even though they grow quite large, they mix well with other fish. If you have more than one of them, you need to keep a watchful eye on them, as they are a touch territorial with each other. The most amazing thing about them is that their tail grows as long as their body and their high dorsal fin. Their big eyes make them friendly to the human eye and an ideal relationship fish.
SIZE These fish grow to around 12 inches.

SEXING Larger male fish develop bristles on their cheeks.
BREEDING These fish normally lay their eggs on plant leaves, although it is not unheard of for them to lay them on the glass. The male is in charge of the eggs until they hatch.
