| SEXING |
|
The males have a rust-coloured belly, but it is a rarity for the females to show the rust. The females usually have black blotches, which are only in evidence when the female is not sexually active.

| BREEDING |
|
These fish are very gentle parents. They lay large amounts of eggs on a pre-cleaned rock out in the open. Their eggs hatch within 3 to 4 days depending on the water temperature and are free swimming in about a week.
