S. aureatus (L014)

S. aureatus (L014) - Photo
Scobiancistrus aureatus
HABITS The S. aureatus, with their stunning colour, are amongst the kings of the suckermouth catfish. Since they grow very large, you will need a large aquarium in order to keep them long term. Their growth rate is quite slow though, so you can purchase a smaller aquarium to keep them as they grow. These fish are also a little more delicate to keep than other ancistrus, so be certain that you supply them with both good food and good water quality. Coming from the Amazon, they enjoy soft acidic water, which may be warm, just as long as you make sure the oxygen content can cope with their needs. As with many of these fish, they enjoy cover, with bogwood probably being their favourite. Be sure that the lights are not too strong.
SIZE These fish can grow very large, 30 to 45 cm.
