THE FISH

Sucker-mouth Catfish
(Plecostomus)

Hypostomus punctatus
HABITS Mainly kept for their ability to consume algae, fish keepers have come to realise that these fish have amazing character and have begun collecting them. They have bony like scales all over with the exception of a soft belly. Their natural home is in the Amazon Basin of South America, yet they adapt well to life in an aquarium. They enjoy rocky and/or well wooded displays where they can hide away in the daytime and venture out to eat at night. Amazingly for a nocturnal fish, these guys tame well when treated right and given time, effort, and the correct sera foods.
SIZE These fish grow to around 6 to 8 inches in an aquarium, but are larger in the wild.
