THE FISH
Tinfoil Barb
Barbodes schwanenfeldi
| HABITS |
|
This is one of the more commonly available of the large barbs. This elegant, fast swimmer is a joy to see in a larger aquarium when in numbers. It should not be put with smaller fish, as it will swallow them if it can get them in its mouth, even though it is more of a vegetable eater than a carnivore. Therefore, be sure not to put big Tinfoils with tiny fish! This fish is best kept in a larger aquarium with good filtration, as its oxygen requirement is high, as is the case of most fast swimmers. Otherwise, this is an easy fish to keep. If you feed it well and give it good water, you will be rewarded with big, beautiful fish quite quickly. Please note, this fish can be a bit skittish and can jump really well, so keep those hatches battened down well.
