THE FISH
Yellow Dwarf Cichlid
Apistogramma borelli
| HABITS |
|
As with all Apistogramma, these fish are somewhat of a challenge and will easily die if you do not give them good food and good water. By using 'Aquatest' you will greatly improve your chances of successfully keeping these fish healthy and alive. You need to consistently score at least a 90% on the 'Aquatest Score' in order to successfully raise these fish. If you are not experienced enough in keeping your water quality from fluctuating, do not purchase these fish until you become more qualified and confident. A newly set up aquarium is definitely not recommended. These guys love the little nooks and crannies of a well planted aquarium with both rocks and wood.

| BREEDING |
|
As with others in the Cichlid family, these fish also like to breed in cavities and caves. An ideal breeding place would be an overturned flower pot, having either an entrance or being slightly tilted to one side. The male stands sentry duty, guarding the local area while the female tends to the nest, most often upside down. The eggs hatch in about 3-4 days and are mothered by their mum until they become free swimming, at which time they can feed on brine shrimp nauplii.
